Capstone Project Statement of Intent

The goals of my project are:
  • Reach out to any at risk kids
  • Invite administrators and parents to get involved with their child's life
  • Reduce kids from participating in risk factors associated with juvenile delinquency
These goals should be important to us because the kids in school right now are our future and will one day be the ones taking care of us. Their actions affect us more than we think and we don't need any more juveniles in detention. The root of the problem starts at home and early on during childhood.

This fits into my career goals because I wanted to be a counselor for the juveniles in detention.

My project gives back to society in that I want to implement programs in schools.

Teaching, Learning, Sustainable Community Building is the Richland triple bottom line. I believe my Capstone project fits into each of these categories because working with at risk kids always teaches you something or impacts your life as well as the community in some way.

PSA

I personally liked the Flower/Heart & Stroke PSA because of the reverse flower coming to life again. I liked the simple white background because the focus was solely on the flower and it was a very effective symbol for heart disease. I want my PSA to have a serious tone as well and more importantly, I want it to be simple and to the point.

What What How What?

I chose my historic photo because that picture has always captured my attention and the contentment of the soldiers as well as civilians after the war was very noticeable. A few challenges I hit while photo shopping myself in this picture was that my face came out much more lighter than the people in the photo, the noise of the photo was more than my picture, and I was also having trouble sizing myself to a believable and rational size. The final outcome was actually better than I thought...The era of 'vintage' I feel drawn to is the 1920s

Online Copyright

You cannot use anything you don't make yourself.

Hmmm. This may apply when you want to sell something or make money out of something. However the loop hole in the copyright laws applies to students. Therefore, if you are a student & you use a Google image, you cannot get in trouble for using the image for a school project.

Historical Photography

Yes? No? Maybe so...?

Capstone Topic

My Capstone topic is avoiding teen delinquency. My solution so far is incorporating notebooks, or 'diaries', into mentor programs already at different schools, as well as a sheet that mentors will use to keep track of student's progress. The point of the notebook is for the student that is being mentored to write in it every day and eventually let the mentor read it, giving the student an opportunity to learn to trust.
